Starting from the post office in Weedon, the route leaves the village by the church and joins the Nene Way for a short distance. It passes the back of the old Wharf House, then crosses the Grand Union Canal to walk on the towpath along to Stowe Hill, before leaving it shortly afterwards to follow footpaths through fields and meadows to Nether Heyford.
This is a pretty village with a mix of old and new houses, having been extended in recent years. Continue on footpaths along field edges, sometimes following the River Nene on the way to Bugbrooke Mill, where flour is produced; the scenes are rural and beautiful. The route then turns towards Bugbrooke, a sizeable village with good amenities and with a large church where there is an inscription from Longfellow on a tree in the graveyard.
From here the walk heads for the towpath of the Grand Union Canal, to follow it along past places that were once vital to working boatmen and their families, travelling to and from London with their various cargoes. The towpath is left within a few yards of where it was first encountered soon after the walk began. Footsteps are then retraced for the remainder of the journey, passing the Wharf House and the church on the way back to the post office in Weedon.
