From the Water Department car park a good farm road passes Wester Balgorthie Farm and out past West Feal Farm. The road soon makes a sharp right then left turn and goes through a gate to take you across a pleasant woodland area and out to a broad grass trail, stretching towards Bishop Hill in the distance. As you walk along this section there are great views towards Loch Leven. You will pass some impressive crags before you go through a gate and head for Bishop Hill, quite a small peak with a little cairn on top. The view from the summit is worth the climb. A good trail leads off and down to a V-junction that takes you through a small valley with an interesting area of birch trees. Pass through the old wall and turn left to take you down to a gate, where you turn right into Glen Vale. The next section can be a bit muddy in places. You will soon approach a gate; go through and cross the bridge. A good forest road takes you past Harpleas Reservoir. Ignore any sideroads and walk out to the car park.

This is a really enjoyable walk over a wide variety of terrain with ever changing views. Our weather varied from hot sunshine to a torrential shower and the changes to the views were impressive. The only problem lies in the Sat Nav post code. Unfortunately the post code applies to a wide area including Balgothrie (which is on a different road) as well as the target of West Balgothrie, and our TomTom took us to the wrong place. Access at Strathenry house from the A911 on to Strathenry Avenue is correct.
