The walk from West Kirby, at the north of the Wirral, to Hilbre is not exacting but can be done only if there is sufficient time between tides. It is also quite a bracing place to visit, so you need to wrap up warm on most occasions. The rewards are an open vista of the estuary and the nearby Welsh hills, seabirds and waders and grey Atlantic seals; highly recommended.

Once out on Hilbre Island if you look out into the sea or on Hoyle Sand Bank (Towards Welsh Coast) you should be able to spot some seals! Julian Buchanan
