Starting below the ruins of Corfe Castle, the walk skirts the north side of the West Hill - Knowle Hill ridge through varied woods and heath and past old flooded clay-pits. Ascending the ridge from the west affords good views of the Purbecks and beyond. Descending the south slope, the route carries on via the village of Church Knowle, through farmland along the banks of the tiny Corfe River, then through the historic Corfe Village and round the foot of the castle itself.

The route is usually muddy and wet in places, but never deep. The walk is at its best with leaves on the trees. Varied habitats throughout give ample opportunity to observe wildlife.
