After crossing the River Esk via a footbridge, this walk enters the village of Westerdale (toilets available) before following the course of the Esk up Westerdale itself. The route crosses the river again to follow part of the 35-mile-long Esk Valley Walk.
On the return, walkers may continue back to Hob Hole or extend their walk by using Walk 5841 to track across Hograh Moor into Baysdale, returning to Hob Hole via a different path. This would add another 7km (4.5 miles) to the walk.
