Walk starts in Hindley beside the cemetery. First section of walk heads north over Westhougton Common with good views to Winter Hill, initially on good-quality farm track before making way across fields and disused railtrack back to farm track. This track leads briefly to Chorley Road. Second section of walk takes southerly direction via site of Westhoughton Colliery with good views south to Mersey and beyond on clear days. Final section of walk is through Borsdane Wood and its associated watercourse.
