The walk uses part of the Essex Way, from the little station at White Notley, to visit a medieval settlement with glorious huge barns, in a very picturesque setting at Cressing.

This site is owned and run by Essex County Council and is well worth visiting after you have completed your walk, which passes around it. Alternatively you can break off to do so en route. There is free entry except when there are special events.

The full walk is wonderful and not be missed. You cross and recross the River Brain and use excellent farmland paths all the way, as well as very quiet country lanes.

Not bad but would have thought there was an alternative route rather than retracing your steps back along the same path.The road walking by Cressing Temple Barns is dangerous

Not a bad walk. Worked out at 8.5 miles. Just a couple of updates. At waymark 3, the 3rd stile has been replaced with a kissing gate. Also the road you turn left on is very busy, so instead cross straight over the road to a footpath opposite, go over the stile and turn right which brings you into the grounds of Cressing Temple Barns, missing out the busy stretch of road. As mentioned before at waymark 7, the fingerpost is still lying in the ditch. The path is only about 50 yards past Westock farm on the left. At waymark 8, turn left just before the electricity pylon, There is no markerpost

11.03.2012 - We completed this walk yesterday and it was beautiful. I must confess that this would be an excellent winter walk when the ground is boggy and wet as quite a lot of it is walking on tarmac. Just wanted to point out that at Waymark 7 the fingerpost just after Westock Farm is now laying in a ditch and as such we wandered right past the left hand track as it is not obvious. Fortunately we hadn't gone far before we realised and backtracked. The signposted track to the left is not that far after Westock Farm and if you get as far as walking under the electricity cables running across the road then you have gone too far. Excellent walk and would thoroughly recommend it.

02/08/09 If using a car park in Vicarage road opposite the Crossed Keys public house, near point 2, you can then start and finish your walk here. Be aware that the pub is shut between 2-5 pm weekdays,we done this walk on a hot Sunday,excellent walk, we stopped at Cressing Temple Barnes, they had storks and birds of prey display which was amazing, we left here correctly at the bottom right hand side of the field through some apple trees, we did not see a signpost, we may have missed it. at the beginning part of point 5 the path between the trees was overgrown with heavy nettles,walk a little way up the concrete track on the left hand side, and then climb down and walk between the trees, a very pleasant part of the walk, the rest of the walk was easy going. There is a few long hard surface tracks, a nice walk. if you only have the one day at this location we would recommend walk 1579, read our comments first, or both if you fancy 15 miles.
