Whittington and the Canal

The walk is based on Whittington Castle, which must be among the very few owned and run by a Community Trust. The walk is level, using quiet lanes, the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal and pastures to make a circuit from a delightful village in an area used by few, except local, walkers. The section on the lane, used because of a lack of footpaths, will take about thirty minutes and this might not be to your taste. I found it pleasant and met only six vehicles in that time, two of them the same post van! Most of the route is extremely easy to follow but one stile is 100m from the point indicated on the map; this took me some time to sort out but you will know in advance.
