Starting from Widecombe-in-the-Moor (of Uncle Tom Cobley and grey horse fame) we have a very steep climb up and along a quiet country lane and stony track, up onto the open moor with spectacular views over Hameldown, where racehorses are trained early in the mornings. A flat section now gives us a gentle stroll along a wide green track between the blooms of gorse and heather while admiring the scenery and being serenaded by skylarks.

Crossing a country road another, less steep path takes us up to Wind Tor, with further spectacular views and a chance to explore for prehistoric remains such as the stone circle of an ancient hut, where a family lived possibly three thousand years ago. Now it's downhill all the way back to Widecombe and a Devonshire cream tea or dinner at the inn.

Nice walk with good instructions. Do have a couple of updates: 1) Car park pricing has gone up significantly: £1.10 in the suggested car park, £1.50 in the "other". 2) Point 7, at the road with the parking space there is also a large stone slab with the inscription "Two Crosses" which is set into the grass bank of the road.
