A pleasant walk in the Wear Valley, featuring a variety of terrains including riverside paths, lanes and a railway path. The route also includes 2.6 miles of unavoidable pavement-walking that actually makes for a less muddy walk when tackled in the winter months, plus 2.8 miles of picturesque riverside-walking.

The route starts from the Jubilee Bridge with a long flat section of riverside-walking to pass through the former mining village of Page Bank. The route then crosses the River Wear and climbs up out of the valley to pass along the edge of Whitworth Park, before pleasant lane-walking takes you to the perimeter of the town of Spennymoor. An absolutely delightful section then follows along the popular tree-lined Auckland Way, a former railway line. A long section of pavement-walking is next as the route passes through Byers Green, Todhills and finally Newfield. From here a pleasant descending lane takes you back down to the River Wear. Having crossed a long footbridge over the river, a very picturesque riverside path returns you to the car park and picnic area at Jubilee Bridge.
