This walk is quite demanding, though keeping mainly to field paths and tracks. Some road walking is required around the area of Winster, Brassington and the approach to Aldwark, mostly on quiet village roads. Where main roads are concerned there is mostly available space or verges.
The path can be steep in places, particularly where it crosses the Via Gellia road in both directions. One problem area has now been upgraded with steps replacing a steep bank. There are several areas of interest with paths crossing the High Peak trail, showing signs of the railway origin of this trail, still in place along the line of the route.
The central point of the walk, Brassington, offers two pubs, both mostly Marston's houses. Offering and range of hand pulled beers, also each has a varied reasonable value menu. This walk uses the Miner's Arms, the other pub the Olde Hanging Gate is just beyond the point where the return route, path turns through the churchyard, on the left opposite the village Post Office. Neither really has much accommodation outside for eating your own food, though the Olde Hanging Gate has a lawned beer garden accessible through the pub to enable outside eating, though only if purchased in the pub. Both pubs request muddy boots to be covered or removed.
