This is a circular walk, with some steep climbs, which starts in the small town of Wirksworth. The walk climbs up one side of the valley to Bolehill, across to the other side via the High Peak Trail to Middleton Top, around a quarry and back down into Wirksworth.

The walk will take at least three hours, but if you decide to take in the views, deviate by following another walk stated on the information board in the Black Rocks Country Park by the High Peak Trail, have a ride on the Steeple Grange Light Railway or visit the Stone Exhibition on your way to Middleton Top, then I would advise you to purchase a pay and display ticket in the car park at Wirksworth for the day.

You may find a couple of areas of the walk a little overgrown in the summer months, but still passable providing trousers are worn. In my opinion walking-boots are the best footwear, but a pair of stout trainers I'm sure will suffice.

First off, great walk... many thanks. My wife and I did this walk on 09/04/07 and there is a slight change to be made to the directions. When you get to 23 (Grid ref:276547) the instructions tell you that the proper path is straight on and not through the quarry. This is not the case... you have to go through the quarry now. This brings you out at the hairpin bend as indicated by 25.
