This walk is mostly along field-tracks and requires short stretches of road-walking, firstly through the village of Sheldon to reach the pub, later on narrow roads through Over Haddon and the last part returning to the parking area on Moor Lane, above Youlgreave.
There are sections that require care following the line of the 'Limestone Way' towards Monyash. The path descends steeply along stone steps into Cales Dale; soon after there is a rocky section approaching One Ash Grange Farm. The return is easier, with only a short climb up a field bank between Sheldon and Over Haddon and along a track from Lathkill Lodge.
The pub used on this walk is the Cock and Pullet and is somewhat against the trend with village pubs in the Peak. Opened in the mid-1990s in what had been a dry village for nearly thirty years and only now being shown by OS maps on the revised Explorer OL24 map, the pub is quite small, but adequate as a village pub. Walkers are welcomed, but extend them the usual courtesy of removing or covering muddy boots; some areas are carpeted. They have a good selection on the menu and at very reasonable prices, portions also were quite generous. Drinks-wise they had Bass and a guest beer on hand pumps (Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord' when walked), also serving tea and coffee if preferred.
