This is a lovely, peaceful walk with very few people along it even on an August weekend. The whole walk is wooded and pleasantly cool even on a hot summers day. Although the return journey is along the same path - the beauty and tranquility of this wooded valley along the river dart is well worth it with the sound of the river constantly at your side. The river Dart is ever changing - from busy white rapids to tranquil sections of clear water.

The path has few wet places - even after heavy rain - and is wide with a good, almost flat surface for the first couple of kilometres before it steeply climbs up through an avenue of rhododendrons. Continuing on through the wooded valley we pass a series of small waterfalls - and cross a small stream on stepping stones - before a stile takes us out of Holne woods and down to the river side for about three quarters of a kilometre to a large, deep, natural pool fed from a large set of rapids that provide a natural flume for water lovers (swim wear optional!). After relaxing or enjoying the water - the return journey is along the same path.
