South Gosforth - Jesmond Dene - Jesmond Vale - Quay Side

The walk will follow the route of the Ouse Burn from South Gosforth through Jesmond Dene to its confluence with the River Tyne. The paths lead you past six city parks, each following on from the other. Jesmond Dene and Armstrong park areas were donated to the City of Newcastle in August 1884 by Sir William G Armstrong at a ceremony carried out by the then Prince and Princess of Wales. Woods abound on each side of the ravine, with a multitude of specimen trees. One attraction in early summer is the wonderful display of rhododendrons. This is a good walk for children, with many play areas, pets' corner and paddling pools. Wildlife abounds on the Ouse Burn and in the woods. The final stretch along the Quay Side will see many historical sites unfold.

This is a lovely walk, with just the amendment that the path near the end is now completed so you can follow it through right to the point where the Ouseburn meets the Tyne (and the real ale pub!).
