From the start point, named after the three locks close together by the inn of the same name, this walk takes you first along the Grand Union Canal in the direction of Braunston. This canal was a vital link in the heyday of the longboat and is still greatly used both for pleasure and for some freight transport. It is also very popular along this stretch with anglers. After the towpath crosses to the opposite side of the canal, you pass another lock at Stoke Hammond. Once off the towpath you use a road to cross the River Ouzel and pass a former mill. Then, using field paths you gradually climb until you reach the village of Great Brickhill at the church. Walking through the village you have grand views back over the valley. The ridge on which the village stands offers many opportunities for fine walks and you could extend this walk in a number of ways. The Greensand Ridge Path passes along and across it just a little further south. The bridleway used for the descent back to the canal is pleasant enough, passes a very grand farmhouse and of course, recrosses the River Ouzel. Once back on the canal it is but a few hundred yards back to your start point.
