The walk starts from Mills Hill Railway Station car park, which is directly across the road from the station. A short walk along the road joins the canal, along to a river running through a park, then up a lane through a petty little village. We then cross the motorway and follow country lanes past farms to Tandle Hill Country Park, pass through the park and up to a monument on top of the hill, where great views are to be had. Along paths and another country lane, we rejoin the canal for a pleasant stroll back to the pub (for lunch and a little refreshment maybe?)

Did this walk today. Very enjoyable walk for the winter months. Oh and yes those puddles are huge!! All waypoints are clear and still look the same. Thank you once again.

My wife and I completed this walk 2 weeks ago. All the directions and waypoints are still applicable. Very enjoyable.

I am pleased people are enjoying this walk. All repair work on the canal has been compleated and the walk is fully open. If you would like to view the damage caused by the aquaduct collapse and what a empty canal looks like, visit google earth and key (53 33 13 N 2 09 53 W) into the fly to box. The satalite got photos in 2005.

We went on walk 1258 last weekend and everyone enjoyed it. Much better than we thought when we pulled into the car park at Mills Hill. The Tandle Hill Tavern was well worth stopping at.

Truly a delightful and varied walk. However I need to add that part of the towpath along the canal from waymark 3 is currently closed due to maintenance work.(For a period of approximately 6 months) We had to take some steps up to the housing estate at this point. It is possible to enter Chadderton Hall Park via the estate. At the park you come to a car park which you need to cross and follow the hill back down to the river. The instructions are then rejoined at waymark 6. At the end of the walk, it is not possible to reach the Rose of Lancaster pub along the canal. You need to carry on past the maintenance work until you reach a path to your right. This path again takes you into Chadderton Hall Park via a footbridge and the housing estate that you went through at the beginning of the walk. I hope this does not put people off doing this walk as we really enjoyed the magnificent views from Tandle Hill. Unfortunately we could not see Jodrell Bank due to adverse weather conditions.
