Part of Witton Weaver's Way, this is an easy walk through the fields of Pleasington to the River Darwen at Houghton Bottoms, with good views of Houghton Tower Hill. Return route is mainly along the riverside, passing below an impressive railway viaduct and encountering a dramatic waterfall.

The walk has some beautiful river valley scenery reminiscent of Yorkshire Dales and is excellent for wildlife - deer, herons, kingfishers, butterbur.

My husband and I really enjoyed this walk today.. Only one criticism is the way that the plant Himalayan Balsam is allowed to suffocate the banks of the river.. although it is well loved by insects a lot of this should be cleared to prevent it wiping out the native plants, and to allow a view of the river.

Did the walk today (18/4/12). A number of the stiles have been replaced by gates. Agree with the comment about the last mile being along road. Lovely scenery.

Sections7,8,9,10 are closed until August 09 - path erosion by river. Although the officail notice states no alternative route, just carry on over the bridge and at the T junction turn left to be back on route to point 11. I found this out on 4th June 09

The first two thirds of the walk are in glorious lancashire countryside, including waterfalls and meadows. However the last third is on the road!! who wants to walk along a main road?? very disappointing!!

Great walk very quite and peacefull apart from half a mile on Preston New Rd, start at the Butlers Arms and finish there with a well earned pint. Paul and Judith
