A Journey through the Centre of the Kingdom makes an excellent start with Clitheroe, its castle and museum to explore before setting out on the first stage of the walk. From Pendleton an old highway takes you along the flanks of Pendle to Chatburn, where there are opportunities for refreshments, an overnight stay or a bus back to Clitheroe.
