Galmpton - Kingswear

Starting from the old village of Galmpton (mentioned in the Doomsday Book), we walk along quiet country roads to a green lane that takes us up a wooded track and across farmland and woodland to a high viewpoint. Here we have views over the River Dart and Torbay before dropping down again and across more farmland to enter woodland, which we follow for about four kilometres to Kingswear upper ferry. From here we follow the bank of the river and beside the steam railway track to Kingswear.
The return journey (note another five miles) is back the same way or may be by bus or train to Galmpton.
Alternatively there are ferries across the river to Dartmouth with its quaint shops and famous naval college. From Dartmouth in the summer, there is an hourly river link to Greenway where you may visit the gardens of Greenway Manor, the home for many years of the famous crime writer Agatha Christie and recently taken over by the National Trust (admittance £2.90), then pick up part of walks 1931 or 1942 back to Galmpton.
