The walk starts from the delightful village of Cookham and follows the Thames for a couple of miles. Climbing a short distance up Winter Hill, you are rewarded with distant views across the Thames Valley.

Return to Cookham is via pleasant fields and across a golf course. In Cookham itself you can visit the Stanley Spencer gallery - a small affair but absolutely fascinating. Cookham is awash with pubs and good restaurants.

On the walk itself you can stop at a slightly maverick hostelry called The Bounty, ideal for a drink or a snack to fortify you on a hot summer's day. As the map shows, the National Trust is well-represented in the area: Cliveden House is also nearby and well worth a visit.

Walk reviewed and updated on a chilly March Sunday. There are no longer any stiles! Car park at start of the walk was rammed and suggested alternatives have been added. Two new photos added at WM 02 and 07.

A very good walk, and a nice complement to Walk 28. We detoured at the start of the walk by going east from the car park on the footpath into the village and joining the Thames Path through the churchyard (with a visit to the church) to rejoin the river bank, where it was interesting to see a herd of cows paddling in the Thames! The 'Bounty' pub is only open at weekends during Autumn and Winter. Echoing the comment made in 2006, the views from Winter Hill are very badly obscured by trees. Arguably, the views on the walk up the hill are just as good.

We did this walk appropriately on Easter Sunday given Stanley Spencer's resurrection series is set in Cookham churchyard! Both this and Andrew Long's lovely Waltham St Lawrence walk are great for hot sunny days, as there is plenty of shade en route and at least one pub. The Cookham route contains wonderful views and our border collie enjoyed cooling off in the Thames section! Robin & Pat John

A bracing walk on a gloomy and rather windy January day. Shame about the Leylandii screen that has been planted between 7 and 8 - they will shut the path in and spoil the view. Should they be subject to planning permission - loss of amenity for walkers?!

Lovely walk of good distance and very easy. Especially liked the first stretch along the river, very nice, ideal spots for picnics. Good views from Winter Hill although in Summer, trees obscure it (maybe that's why it's called Winter Hill?). Overall 8/10. Excellent.

This is a perfect walk to do on a warm evening after work. However, we will do it again on a weekend combined with walk 28 ... lunch at 'The Bounty' is planned!
