The walk begins in Egerton Village car park, where the high elevation allows wonderful views of the Kent countryside. The George public house serves food. On Friday afternoons an extremely good farmers' market is held in the village hall, on the other side of the car park. The first part of the walk, to Boughton Malherbe, follows the Greensand Way and is well-marked. The countryside is varied and includes arable farmland, woodland and sheep pasture. There are also some lovely houses to be seen. (Note the house next to Boughton Malherbe Church, which was once the village school). Don't forget to look out for a well-known TV actor's tombstone by the church entrance, there in readiness for his demise; he once lived in the old schoolhouse. During the winter, parts of the walk can be extremely muddy, but the views as you ascend are well worth it.
