The start of Section 5 Redhills Walk is at the Miller's Crossing footbridge. This is next to the pub Mill on the Exe, with great views over the River Exe. The quite spectacular modern bridge spans the River Exe just above Blackallers Weir and at spawning time you can watch the salmon leaping up the weir on their way to Exmoor.

Once across the bridge you enter Flowerpots Playing-Field with its well-laid-out skate park. Further along the route is the Guys Hylton Allotments which back onto the main Exwick Road.

After passing Exwick Cemetery the lane narrows and then starts to wind uphill into Cemetery Field, This is where the footpath gets steep along the woodland walk through the former brick pit.

One of the best views in Exeter can be seen from the Barley Valley Local Nature Reserve, where sometimes you can watch the buzzards, foxes and woodpeckers.

This then leads on to Barley Lane, which was once the old sunken lane into Exeter earlier used to drive livestock to the market. Then finally along Barley Lane, where volcanic lava was quarried nearby and then used in local building. It was also used to build the Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

So after eleven miles and continuing to the end of Barley Lane we reach Dunsford Road, the start of the Green Circle Walk.
