This walk starts with great views of Anglezarke and Rivington Reservoirs, which supply the drinking water to Wigan. Blackpool Tower can also be seen on the Fylde coast on a clear day. You then pick up an easy-going nature trail around a disused quarry and along the banks of the reservoir. For those with long memories, the late 80s TV programme Watching was filmed in this area. You then strike out, away from the reservoir onto the West Pennine Moors, taking in a disused lead mine and a WW2 monument to a crashed Wellington bomber. The going is generally good, following well-marked footpaths, apart from some parts of the moorland which can be muddy in places.

I did this walk to road test my new GPS. When you get to the Manor Farm just follow the road as the next section doesn't really add much to the walk. At other 15 you'll see a stile to your Left. If you go through this and follow the path across the field, you'll end up at the WW2 memorial. Just follow the path down to your right to end up back on track. As said before, between pt17-20 can be a bit vague. Even with my GPS I still ended up slightly off track. Good walk but don't do after heavy rain.

This is an excellent walk with great variety from the waterside paths to moorland with brilliant views. There are some wet/boggy sections so make sure you have appropriate footwear - but don't let this put you off. Directions are clear though as mentioned the path between WM17 and WM20 is not at all clear - especially as the direction arrow at WM17 has gone. I didn't via right enough even though I did find the marker mentioned in WM17. There are various paths to follow - the main thing is to keep about 50m from the Yarrow always aiming for the high point of the way ahead. You will pass various ruined walls crossing the path but when you get to the high point the ruined buildings and three trees are clearly visible. After WM22, though not obvious you need to keep to the right of the little stream that appears at the end of the stone wall. Overall fabulous.

Quite a number of ladder stiles and stiles to be negotiated. Might struggle with medium/large dogs.
