Birmingham claims more miles of canal than Venice. Here’s a chance to walk a few of them and soak up some of our industrial past. We walk along some of the Monarch’s Way, pass over three aqueducts, through one tunnel, around 14 locks and under (sometimes over) countless bridges as we navigate six different canals and as many public houses. With luck you should see boats in operation - but no gondolas!

We did this walk in June 2014. At point 19 the entrance to the tunnel is blocked off by a large spiked fence that you have to clamber around. We did so and at the other end, having clambered around a similar fence there was a sign that said that the tunnel was closed because the towpath was unsafe. Clearly people doing this walk do so at their own risk! The only option otherwise was to turn back and retrace our steps from what we could see. There is a lot of industrial heritage quite a few floating lager cans and also some very picturesque strangely beautiful stretches of canal to see on this walk.
