This lovely walk starts in the village of Edale and follows a public footpath south-east and uphill to Hollins Cross. The views down the Vale of Edale are superb and once up onto the ridge the views open up towards Castleton and you can even make out Peveril Castle on the rocks above the village. The ridge between Hollins Cross and Lose Hill follows an undulating, well-defined path to the summit and another spectacular viewpoint for this area and includes views north to Kinder Scout and east to Stanage Edge. Lose Hill is also known as Ward's Piece and is the highest point on the entire walk at 476m (1,562ft). The summit can get very busy in peak times due to its close proximity to Edale, Hathersage, Hope and Castleton. From the summit of Lose Hill the path descends towards the village of Hope but turns north about 1km outside of the village, so a short detour will take you to the shops and pubs if you wish. The route works its way north, crosses the railway line and joins a path that skirts around the bottom of the Kinder Scout plateau before making its way back to Edale.

Did this walk last Saturday (21/01/2017) in bitterly cold conditions. The first mile is easy enough but then miles 2 & 3 are testing with a steep climbs up to Hollins Cross, Back Tor and Lose Hill. However, the views once you are up there simply stunning and well worth the effort. The rest of the walk (once down from Lose Hill) is fairly easy with the odd small climb. The directions are excellent but the only thing I would add is at waypoint 24 where there is a new metalled gate. Go through it and turn left following the stream uphill through another gate in the corner of the field. From there you'll be able to see waypoint 25 no more than 50 yards in front of you.........Enjoy!!

Nice walk very strenuous at the start but by the time you have done Hollins cross and loose hill that is about a third away round it's pretty much easy, nice views and would say ok for dogs
