Bristol is very much a modern city with a history going back thousands of years. It was called 'the most beautiful, interesting and distinguished city in England', by John Betjeman, British Poet Laureate. In the last few decades, the city has reinvented itself as a hub of culture and creativity.

The walk will take you right through the heart of the city, visiting many of its best-known attractions, including the cathedral, harbour side, SS Great Britain, Cabot Tower and Observatory. The walk crosses the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, then towards the end of the walk it passes underneath it.

Walking around the city is very rewarding, with something different to see at every corner. But the walk is not all about city walking. It also leads across Clifton Down, where the Balloon Fiesta is held every August, heads up the Avon Gorge and takes you through Leigh Woods, which is home to some rare flora and fauna.

A really great walk that has got a bit of everything in it. Directions are also are very clear. Great opportunity to walk over and under the Suspension Bridge as well !.Its a £1 toll to drive over but free to walkers

A great varied walk full of surprises and plenty of opportunities for refreshment breaks. At Navigation Point 29 the path is now complete; please note it goes alongside the Metro bus lane here. Take care to cross to the black pavement on the left of the track before you cross the bridge then back over the crossing to join the riverside path.
