The walk starts and ends by the Rochdale Canal in Slattocks, which lies between Middleton and Castleton. It follows the canal downstream to reach a railway bridge. It leaves the canal to follow several footpaths alongside and through Stake Hill industrial estate, following the course of a brook. It passes through a hamlet and under the A627M motorway to reach Tandle Hill Country Park. It follows paths through the woodland and up to the Tandle Hill monument before dropping down and across several fields to reach the M62 motorway, which it follows before crossing the motorway. It then goes alongside another brook before reaching the canal. It returns following the canal downstream again. You pass a number of properties over 100 years old. There is a slight possibility of a diversion at Waymark 19 (see info' for Waymark 19). Some paths are not shown on the map.
