Willen Lake affords opportunities for a variety of watersports. Many more interests are catered for at the water's edge and there are restaurants, tea rooms and a pub. The views over the lake are superb. Along with the River Ousel, which connects other lakes (see especially Walk 3963) Willen Lake forms part of a complicated drainage system which prevents flooding in much of eastern England. It reaches the sea at the edge of The Wash via complex sluices just outside King's Lynn.
