This area is full of interest, but remote - be warned that there is no coverage for mobile phones! The walk climbs up through the forest of the Great Bank before returning along Glyndwr's Way as it travels gently down the valley of the Backell Brook. There are usually red kites as well as other birds of prey such as buzzards.

This remote, long valley attracted the Cistercians to build an abbey. Now in ruins, it claims the headĀless body of Llywelyn the Last. The tranquil site and surrounding scenery are now more impressive than the ruins of Abbeycwmhir. Never comĀpleted, it was a victim of the wars between the Welsh and English.
