The walk starts at a car park by Alexandra Park. It follows a suburban road and climbs some steps to reach a cycle track. It then follows the cycle track, crossing several roads, to lead through Leesbrook Nature Park and along the Medlock Valley Way (MV). It leaves the nature park and heads towards Holts via suburban roads and a rural road to cross the MV. It follows a bridleway above the MV before crossing a suburban road and rejoining the MV, which is then followed to Park Bridge (see additional info' for more details). From Park Bridge it follows a rural road before crossing fields to reach the cycle track again. It follows the cycle track back to Alexandra Park, passing two alternate car parks. The final section is through the park between two bodies of water to the start point. Although there is no major high point there is still plenty of interest to see. Road names are included for clarity. There are several points along the MV between Waymarks 23 and WM where the track is partially eroded and also one short section where there is a steep drop to the river.

Sep 2020.The footbridge at WM24 is closed. The alternate route is to follow the wide path down to the road. Turn left and cross the river and rejoin the walk from WM26.
