The walk starts on converted railways which once served the shale mining industry in West Lothian. It follows the River Almond through part of Almondell Country Park, then switches to the canal feeder channel.

On reaching the Union Canal at one of the highest aqueducts in Scotland, it follows the towpath for a couple of miles. Lastly it follows the Brox Burn path to Uphall Village, finishing on yet more converted railways and back to the start.

Walk completed on 08/09/19. Thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly Calton Hill. Can’t believe the route is only 2.2 miles though. It took us about 4 hours. We would guess it is more like 5 or 6 miles.
