Arenas Negras to St Jose de los Llanos

This is a spectacular 4½-hour, high-altitude, circular walk of easy gradient you can access by bus or car, in the west of the island, with breathtaking views of the lava fields, pine forests and woods around St Jose de Los Llanos. There is a short uphill stretch on the forestry road to the walkers' car park and then it is easy going with some fantastic views as you walk around Montana Negra, heading towards pine forest. It's amazing to see the new pine trees growing through the black soil. St Jose is a charming little village with a bar opposite the bus stop.
