A majestic walk which crosses the fell twice, linking three diverse and distinct Wharfedale villages. The going can be difficult at times, but the exhilaration of the stunning views for almost the whole of the walk make the effort definitely justified. The initial two miles following the River Skirfare, well known for its varied birdlife, make this a walk of contrasting beauty and one which should be included in every walker's itinerary.

Fabulous walk. We really enjoyed it. From Kettlewell instead of taking the footpath and heading for the 'Slit' no.7 , we took a more gradual (initially) well defined footpath to the left to Moor End Fell which gave wonderful views of Wharfedale- Starbotton and Buckden before crossing to Littondale. This increased final mileage of walk to 8 miles.

Fred (the dog) and I walked this route today in stunning weather. Great direction instructions. Excellent under foot and the views are breathtaking for moderate effort. We set off from Hawkswick but the directions work just as well. The Falcon at Arncliffe is a lovely stop off on the route. Outside Castle Farm on the wall there's an blue cooler box with eggs for sale. Well worth the very reasonable £1.50 as they're fresh and tasty.

Despite the horrendous weather - strong winds above Kettlewell and persistent heavy rain, I enjoyed this walk and will have to do it again in more clement conditions. I chose to start and finish at Kettlewell, with a break at Arncliffe. The climb from WP6 is quite steep, however the lingering views back to Kettlewell are well worth the effort. The final descent into Arncliffe after WP9 is very tricky in wet conditions - you definitely need both hands free on the slippery limestone. The riverside walk along the River Skirfare was an absolute joy, before the climb back to Kettlewell. Point to note - the descent after WP5 can also be very slippery in wet conditions and instead of having to walk back along the road, a path has been constructed parallel to the road, which comes out conveniently at Kettlewell Bridge.
