Easily accessible by bus, this walk starts from the delightful village of Arona. It takes a countryside path up to El Refugio across to the saddle between Roque Imoque and Roque de los Brezos and down around Montana Suarez to the Fraillitos saddle by the northern side of Roque El Conde and down the valley, across the Barranco del Ancon and into Arona. Parts of the path are very bouldery and screedy, so do take care and concentrate on your footing.

The walk is best avoided on a Saturday if you wish to lunch at El Refugio, as it is shut on that day.

Walked today and thoroughly enjoyed the chance to experience the real Tenerife..... Had lunch at El Refugeo, great atmosphere and great food. Some little differences in navigation but nothing that we couldn't cope with. Thank you for a great day!

Really enjoyed this walk, a great diversion from lounging around the pool. The following are merely observations, not criticisms. wp 13 'toward a farmhouse but well before you reach it...' We found the crossing to be only about 10 meters before the farmhouse, with a walking post. wp 16 when you reach the bed there is a clear path left marked 'la fuente de las pilas'.IGNORE this path, instead cross over the bed and follow the walk instruction carefully. This will save you a 200m U turn :-) I suspect these posts were not there when the walk was written. The second half of the walk is like a bad day on the Roaches with hoards of tourists ascending on the narrow track as you descend. Be prepared to look for passing points as most do not seem to understand this courtesy. Do not let this put you off the walk though - it is a really good walk. wp 23 'There are lots of cairns marking the way as it goes left to cross a gulley and up the other side.' It could be us, but we found the path came to a Tee just before the gully, so we kept left and found this was the correct path. Really enjoyed this part of the walk. We were staying in Costa Adeje. Taxi was approx 15 Euro each way. Our GPX track is uploaded here http://bit.ly/1QlKBVT

This is a great walk, the views from the western leg are really impressive. The path has been subject to improvement works. At point 18, the steepest drop has been fenced and from there to point 22 the path has been widened and steps cut. However, the improved path seems to go to Vento. Just before point 23 there is a bare post where the main track turns right but you need to go left to reach the path into the barranco.

This is a good walk in spectacular scenery. One small point, at Step 23, the barranco crossed is Barranco Del Rey, not Barranco del Ancon. Thanks Gary, corrected now - Ed.
