A village walk tracing the paths that the nature poet, John Clare, took as a lad, with pleasing landscapes, woods and plenty of historical interest.
This walk begins at John Clare's birthplace and takes a circular route around the surrounding countryside, visiting many of the spots that John Clare frequented as a child, including Swaddywell Pit, the location for his well-known poem 'The Lament of Swordy Well', mourning the loss of the natural landscape to the Enclosure Movement.
The interest of this walk lies in tracing the steps of John Clare and visiting the John Clare Centre at the end of the walk, where you can learn much more about the poet. This is not a walk for those hankering after ups and downs - it is almost completely flat.
