Newton Stewart is known as 'The Gateway to the Galloway Hills' and this fairly undemanding route provides ample evidence. The walk starts alongside the River Cree, then rises to skirt the town's attractive golf course, with panoramic views of hills and mountains before entering mature woodland. The route descends to Old Minnigaff, crosses the Cree via the suspension footbridge and a modest climb ensues, with more views to the hills as you re-enter the town.

This walk complements Walks 928, 'Around Newton Stewart 1' and 7591, 'Around Newton Stewart 3'.
