Picturesque Ashmore, on Cranborne Chase, is seven hundred feet above sea-level and the highest village in Dorset. It has an attractive pond in the centre of the village. The walk starts at Well Bottom and follows good paths through beautiful woodland, soon joining a stretch of the Wessex Ridgeway, from which there are distant views to the south-east. Wildlife is quite prolific in this peaceful and remote setting.

Thank you Ryder for posting this gentle, picturesque walk through the lovely ancient woodland. We did this walk on a bright and frosty Sunday morning in early January and came across a quietly grazing herd of deer, who hardly acknowledged our presence and many songful birds. Also several chatty locals who were only to pleased to share their experiences with us. Well worth another visit in a different season.
