This walk forms part of the recently created Ayrshire Coastal Path. It starts along the shore at Maidens and cuts through the NTS property of Culzean. At this point several routes can be chosen, heading north to sample the pleasures of Culzean. The path then descends to the beach at Culzean Bay.

Burnfoot may become impassable for an hour or two at high tide, so tables should be consulted before starting, to ensure access. Soon after this the path zigzags up the cliff to the top of the escarpment and follows the fence round the clifftop. At this point the views are magnificent, especially to the north and west, showing the whole of the Firth of Clyde. You pass the ruined castle before reaching the picturesque fishing village of Dunure.

As no bus runs between start and finish, participants should catch bus to Ayr to return to maidens. As each bus is infrequent expect delay, but no need for extra long walk.

06/09/2021 Really nice coastal walk. Great scenery. Make sure the tide is out when you do it! Was staying at Maidens so needed to return so planned to bus back...WHAT BUS??? Only go to Ayr from Dunure. Tide had come in so could not return along shore line...had to walk the 9 miles back on the coast road. Ended up walking almost 17 miles in total.
