Bacton Church - Herefordshire Trail - St Margaret's - Park Wood - Bacton Church

Herefordshire is a county of contrasts. This walk explores some of the lowland in the south of the county. Although there is a lot of farmland on this walk, part of the Herefordshire Trail climbs up through parkland and woodland before emerging into more parkland and gently downhill to reach St Margaret's. The return route uses little-used footpaths through woods and fields to return to St Bacton's Church. Here look out for the yew tree near the gate, reputed to be over 1,000 years old.

Attempted this walk on the 12th September 2012 and in relation to point 14 the "Bull in field" sign is still present and although we could not see it from our position outside the fence we were confronted by a very inquisitive border collie who was waiting for us on the other side of the stile. As our own 2 dogs had been attacked a couple of days prior to this we did not attempt to continue and had to return to point 11 to finish the walk along the lanes. The farmyard at point 14 also looked very untidy and we just got the general feeling that walkers were not really wanted on the land. We could of course be wrong and that is just our personal opinion. Also the path between points 4 & 6 was very overgrown.
