This area of woods and heathland was once Desford Colliery, now developed by Leicestershire County Council into this lovely parkland. The hills you will see are not really hills at all but are huge piles of waste coal, coal brought up from deep underground to form these slag heaps now covered in grass and mature woodlands.

Although I quote Explorer map 233 it is not much help because the area is uncharted, so the hills do not appear on the map and nor does the cycle track along which you will walk. If you download and take my map with you and follow the text instructions you will have a lovely walk.
