This is a walk through the heart of Thomas Hardy's 'Wessex', passing his birthplace at Higher Bockhampton and grave at Stinford. This walk through forest, woods, fields and riverbank inspired Hardy's early writings.

There are no facilities bar a tea shop close by Hardy's Cottage, which is open in high summer. There is mud in places after rain.

Very disappointed. Initially app. refused to start up as no network or WIFI (despite having downloaded walk). Once on walk, description was not accurate (esp. step 4) and map location took far too long to update, though was OK on Google.

Completed this walk on 24/12/2017, a great dog friendly walk. We were able to leave Henry off the lead for 90% of the walk, all of the styles were small dog friendly, you would gave to lift big dogs over them and a few of them were very high. The walk was a little wet under foot as you would expect for this time of year & was on well signposted tracks throughout. It was great fun to use the new app and makes life so much easier as there is no longer any need to print out the walk. The walk was 2 miles longer than expected, not a problem for us but please bear this in mind when considering this walk. A very easy to follow and enjoyable walk.

Al's written up a fantastic walk around Hardy's Cottage, which we also visited, together with the tea shop at the visitor centre (check opening dates and times online.) Some of the stiles were in a poor state of repair, and would challenge the less able. There was limited parking at the start (space for two cars only) but a few mores spaces 100m further on down the hill. It should also be possible to start the walk at the Hardy's Cottage visitor car park if necessary.
