Beginning from the parking outside Benissa's grand and wonderfully peaceful cemetery, our way takes us along timeless country lanes following the course of the motorway, which we hardly notice. It is high above us on a stone embankment. After looping under the motorway a couple of times we continue on a wide canyon track. Just before we would have had to pass under the motorway again, we branch off. Now we have an initially steep, eroded footpath to climb before we walk along a delightful forest footpath that eventually brings us to the idyllic Font de la Mata, a wonderful and interesting place to rest awhile. We continue along peaceful woodland trails before we are faced with the ascent to the ridge summit of the Alt des Serrellars. It is a battle getting up but once there we have 360-degree panoramas that are, quite simply, amazing and most certainly worth the pain. Binoculars would be an advantage and perhaps a map to help you to orientate yourselves. A long descent down a tricky rocky footpath follows and then our way turns to the SW as we descend easily, passing through timeless countryside again full of wonderful old farmhouses and fields of almonds, grapes and olive trees. All too soon we have our final walk along the lane we drove along earlier to return to the cemetery.
