From the village of Blackfordby on the border of Derbyshire with Leicestershire, this is a most enjoyable walk in the National Forest, a great environmental project to create a new forest for the nation, embracing parts of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The route takes in Shellbrook, Norris Hill and Moira on fieldpaths, woodland paths and tracks with a little road-walking here and there. It is an interesting walk with a pleasing landscape and the exciting prospect of the expanding forest transforming a large area for the future.

I did this walk on 17/06/09. I found this walk extremely enjoyable and it was easy to follow. Blackfordby, - a beautiful village, National Forest, - now just maturing, fantastic vistas. Moira Furnace - very interesting. At point 7 farmer has changed the path. You will find at T junction a newly laid gravel path. Turn right here, then follow gravel path to the left, which winds to Willesby Lane. Also things have changed at point 15. Again, new crushed red brick paths have been laid here. After entering the opening in the hedge, follow the path to left and then right. It may be useful for the author to revisit and re-write these two instructions.
