The walk starts from the new Bottesford Beck Visitor Centre; make note of the opening hours if you intend to use it on the completion of the walk. There is a fair amount of footpath- and road- walking on this route, but the rewards are the views across countryside rarely seen around the old sandpits to the east of Messingham and the rolling meadows around Waymarks 7 and 8 looking across towards Twigmoor Grange to the east. There is still an active sand quarry to the west off Messingham; this walk passes through the old and new workings. Most of these old sandpits become fishing ponds or nature reserves - some are fenced-off, preventing access.
