The walk starts at the car park for a community park in Bowlee, Middleton. The first section goes through the park to reach a road. This road is followed for about one kilometre, of which only 150 metres is not paved. The section without pavement should be walked facing the traffic. The road is followed into Heywood, crossing the M62 motorway and past a business park to reach a farm access road. The next section walks through the farm and across fields to reach a footbridge over a brook and then up to a rural lane to reach Unsworth, Bury, crossing the M66 motorway. The next section is through the edge of Unsworth towards a golf course, crossing the M66 again to reach a footpath alongside the motorway. The final section is along farm roads, crossing the M62 again to reach the community park. The majority of the walk is in countryside. There are a pub and shops in Unsworth along the route. There are toilets and a tea room inside the building at the car park start point. Street names are added for clarity.
