This walk from the back of the church in Braunston, heads down towards the North Oxford Canal, then follows it along as far as the bridge leading up to the road that runs along to Willoughby. Field-paths are taken to reach the village, which is pretty and interesting, then again on leaving it. The wide and open scenes are of a very rural Northamptonshire area, green and pastoral. The canal is rejoined, but for a short distance between two bridges, before leaving it for the beckoning spire of Braunston Church. Braunston is virtually unchanged except for some expansion since the working-boat days when it was an important canal centre. It is still the hub for leisure boating and exudes atmosphere and appeal to the canal enthusiast. It is where the historic past meets and influences the present.

We were in the Stratford area so decided to try this one. A very pleasant, short, flat walk in lovely countryside. The stretch along the canal should be treated with some care as the 'summer' rains have caused the path to breakaway badly in places. Many thanks for this. Ray & Sheila Churcher.
