The Malvern Hills offer superb walking with breathtaking views over several counties. This walk starts at the pay and display car park along the A449 as it crosses into Herefordshire. The route follows a narrow lane round to British Camp Reservoir and descends down to its outflow before skirting the side of Broad Down and Hangmans Hill. It then ascends up to the top of Hangmans Hill from the south and summits two more of the Malvern Hills; Broad Down and Millennium Hill before making its way to the top of Herefordshire Beacon which is the highest point on the whole walk at 338m. The top of Millennium Hill and Hereforshire Beacon sport the remains of an Iron Age Hillfort and also a Norman Castle which was one of the highest castles in the country at the time.

We found this walk very enjoyable and not too taxing as although there was obviously quite a lot of uphill walking, it is a short walk. Our GPS logged it at 2.76 miles. The stone pillar at point 8 is enscribed "British Camp Earthworks" in the direction you need to take, but it is pretty obvious where to go. The directions were all good. The car park is now a flat rate of £4.50 for the day, well worth it to be able to take our time and enjoy the spectacular views on this lovely walk and enjoy a cup of tea at the kiosk opposite the car park afterwards!

Did this walk on a gorgeous sunny Tuesday in June with my husband carrying our 10 month old daughter in a hiking carrier. We are both in our early thirties but I would definitely say the ascents on this walk push it beyond being 'Easy'! It was great though, instructions fine and the views 100% worth the sweaty inclines!

At waypoint 3, be sure to read the notes at waypoint 4 about the two paths at the split or you end up skirting the wrong side of Hangman's Hill and will end up at waypoint 8.

Fantastic views and although it is classed as easy the ascent is such that I would say it was easy to moderate. Did it id 1hr 20 mins and walked at a leisurely pace. The directions were spot on.
