Our walk begins at the pleasant bay of Broadsands, where the sea is inviting and safe for paddling or bathing. From here, we continue around the coast to a second bay, with its ancient bathing station. After looking round this historic monument, we climb through mostly beech-tree woodland, following the coast path to Fishcombe Point, a lookout point above another quiet cove.
After climbing down a flight of wooden steps into the cove, you may wish to rest for a while before heading inland along a woodland path. About 100 metres along the path, you will find yourself at the 'Sacred Grove', where four tree-trunks have been set in the ground and carved to represent the four directions, with a chalice in the centre carved with ancient runes.
Earth ceremonies are regularly held at this place. If you look above your head, you will find nine carved wooden masks high in the trees surrounding the area. Continuing through the woods, the path emerges on a farm track, which joins country lanes through the village of Churston Ferrers. The lane continues until joining the main road at Churston Broadway with its shops. Passing the library, we go down another lane and across fields to the start of our journey.
