The walk starts at the small car park in Brookdale Park. It follows a suburban road before dropping down through fields to reach Medlock Vale. It then crosses the River Medlock and the railway line to reach a cycle track. The cycle track is followed through Lumb Clough to reach the start of the Hollinwood Canal (disused and partially filled in). The canal is followed to reach the country park. The walk continues through the country park walking alongside the canal to reach a lake. From the lake there is a short stretch along roads before crossing some fields to reach a suburban road. There then follows a short stretch along suburban roads to reach the Rochdale Canal. The canal is followed for a short distance before returning to the park along suburban roads. The last stretch is through the park to the start point. This walk is classed as moderate because there are a number of muddy or boggy patches. Although the height gain seems low, there are a number of peaks and troughs and the maximum difference is about thirty metres.

I have investigated this comment today. The bridge is closed and may demolished. I have put a request in to Oldham Council asking what the plans are for a replacement. I amawaiting a reply. The obvious diversion is to continue straight ahead at WM05. When you reach the road turn right and follow the road uphill to reach WM14 passing WM13. Continue the walk from this point. This reduces the walk by approx. 1.5 kilometres.

Tried to walk this on 05/12/20. The 2nd footbridge mentioned in waypoint 9 no longer exists and it is difficult but possible to cross the stream. The 3rd footbridge however is completely closed and there appears to be no alternative route available to cross the river thus causing our walk to be abandoned. I think enquiries need to be made with Manchester City Council to check if and when they intend to repair or replace this bridge.
